Goutevenier, on being named to the Town of North Hempstead’s May W. Newburger Women’s Roll of Honor.

At the ceremony, the Town presented Regina with the award and with proclamations from New York State, Nassau County, and the Town of North Hempstead, saying

“Regina is a highly motivated and effective leader who consistently demonstrates a strong ability to analyze complex issues and find creative solutions to serve whatever community or civic group needs her help.  She has led the League of Women Voters of Port Washington-Manhasset and is instrumental in many of its programs, both in our community and State Wide.

“Regina has been involved with the Port Washington Public Library, she is also involved with the Port Washington Garden Club, and has been involved with the Beacon Hill Neighborhood Residents Association.  She has held positions in telecommunications and real estate. She is can–do personified.

“And we are honored to give her this award today”

Regina embodies the League trademark “Making Democracy Work.” Her voter services involvement includes consistent enthusiasm for partnering with other organizations, e.g., in the Glen Cove area where she encouraged, supported, and guided winning a grant to increase voting awareness among Spanish-speaking voters. Regina subsequently led a state-wide workshop on encouraging other Leagues to similar outreach. Regina has used her bully pulpit to deepen PWM’s Voter Services bench by recruiting participants to workshops on organizing forums and experiential training on moderating forums, both created in-house under Regina’s aegis. Regina has also improved the workings of our League with a series of structural initiatives — such as revising the bylaws; changing the tax status to 501(c)3; introducing policies around candidate forums, conflicts of interest, and website management; and shepherding changes required by the National League Transformation Project —initiatives that will endure as part of her League legacy.

Since 1994, 507 women have been named to the Women’s Roll of Honor, which pays tribute to women whose dedicated public or private efforts and community spirit have enriched the lives of all our residents. Regina joins at least 31 current and former members of the League of Women Voters of Port Washington-Manhasset who have earned this honor, including:
