REDISTRICTING BACKGROUND!
What is Redistricting?
Redistricting is the process to fairly evaluate and redraw the Nassau County Legislative Maps. This takes place every ten years based on data collected in the most recent census.
Why is Redistricting so Important?
The new maps will determine the future allocation of political power in Nassau County, and therefore must ensure fair representation for all!
How does Redistricting Work?
The Redistricting process, outlined in the Nassau County Charter, is developed to be an open, transparent, and collaborative process, led by a 10-member Temporary Districting Advisory Committee (TDAC) including 5 Republican and 5 Democratic members (and one non-voting Chairman, appointed by the County Executive). As the Redistricting commission embarks on redrawing Nassau County’s 19 Legislative District, we must ensure new maps follow all NYS Laws and provide fair representation for ALL.
