When asked about the LWV of PWM’s signing on to a suit against the Nassau County Legislature and its Redistricting Commission, this statement was issued:
“Nassau County residents deserve transparency from our legislature, particularly with respect to the redistricting process which will control elections for our county legislators for the next decade. We are disappointed by the legislature’s attempts to avoid scrutiny of information relied upon for the creation of our new legislative districts and are concerned that the enacted redistricting plan may have failed to comply with the Voting Rights Act and the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Act of New York which provide protections for communities of color and prohibit partisan gerrymandering.”
