Paula Blum, Issues and Advocacy VP of the Nassau County League, has been attending meetings of “Water for Long Island.” The mission of this group is to work with Long Island water suppliers and government, community, environmental groups about water conditions on Long Island and to advance actions for effective water supply management. Most residents do not know that all Long Island’s water comes from a network of underground aquifers.
Water for Long Island is advocating for the creation of an agency that would oversee and manage the use of the aquifer system. It would develop short-range and long-range water management plans and implement them. The county League will keep us abreast of their progress.
