SUMMARY:NY Health Act — Impact on Local Governments
DESCRIPTION:Webinar on July 13, 2026, at 7:00pm \nThe Impact of the New York Health Act on \nLocal Governments: Counties, Municipalities, and Schools\nRSVP Here to LI Hub Meeting Presentation\nThe Campaign for New York Health is a statewide coalition dedicated to passing the New York Health Act (S3435 ( https://www.nysenate.gov/legislation/bills/2025/S3425 )/A1466 ( https://nyassembly.gov/leg/?bn=A01466&term=2025&leg_video=1 )) to guarantee healthcare for every New Yorker. \nWhat is the New York Health Act? The NYHA is more than just a healthcare policy that would guarantee comprehensive healthcare for every New Yorker, it’s an affordability bill that provides counties, municipalities and school districts millions of dollars in savings. These savings can be used to reinvest in communities, provide property tax relief or a combination.\n\nHealth economist Dr. Cheryl Cashin and League of Women Voters healthcare specialist Dr. Judith Esterquest analyzed healthcare spending across counties, municipalities, and school districts in New York. Their findings show massive savings under the New York Health Act.\n\nCounty healthcare costs would drop by an average of 90–95%. \nMunicipalities and school districts would see average savings of 80–85%.\n\nThese savings come on top of the fact that over 92% of New Yorkers would pay less for healthcare overall under the New York Health Act.\nAt a time when counties are struggling to balance budgets, municipalities are stretched thin, and school districts are cutting programs and laying off teachers, these savings could free up millions of dollars for local communities.\nWhile the New York Health Act does not dictate what a county, municipality or school district must do with the savings created by the New York Health Act, the savings provide opportunities to reinvest resources back into communities, prevent local tax increases and or provide property tax relief to residents.\nThis webinar will present the White Paper findings, with Q&A.  Find out how the New York Health Act can cover everyone — and save money.\n\n
